Vipul Kamboj is driving Nepal’s hospitality forward with passion, strategy, and excellence.

Vipul Kamboj is the Cluster Director of Sales and Marketing at Kathmandu Marriott Hotel and Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu. With over 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry, he has held key leadership roles with global brands like Marriott, IHG, Leela, Centara, and more, delivering transformative results. Returning to Marriott International, he aims to drive strategic growth and elevate market presence through innovation and excellence, ensuring the properties align with Marriott's global standards and deliver unforgettable guest experiences.

Driven by a commitment to developing his team and creating a robust talent pipeline for future leadership roles, his goal is to retain top talent within Nepal, reducing the need for them to seek opportunities abroad.

How do you see your current role contributing to your organization's success and the overall growth of hospitality in Nepal?

As the Cluster Director of Sales and Marketing at both Kathmandu Marriott Hotel and Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu, my role is pivotal in shaping our sales and marketing strategies, enhancing market leadership, and delivering exceptional guest experiences. By fostering innovation, building strategic partnerships, and aligning with global hospitality trends, I aim to drive sustainable growth. Additionally, my efforts contribute to positioning Nepal as a premier travel destination, supporting the country's hospitality sector and the tourism sector in achieving greater recognition on the global stage.

How do you incorporate Nepali culture into the guest experience?

Nepali culture is at the heart of the guest experience at Kathmandu Marriott Hotel and Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu. From traditional welcome rituals to showcasing local cuisine, arts, and crafts, we immerse our guests in Nepal’s vibrant heritage. Our events and curated experiences often highlight Nepali festivals, music, and storytelling, offering guests an authentic connection to the local culture while enjoying Marriott's world-class hospitality.

What challenges do you face in sales and marketing within Nepal’s hospitality sector, and how do you address them?

The hospitality sector in Nepal faces challenges like fluctuating tourist inflows, limited global connectivity, and growing competition. To address these, we focus on robust digital marketing, targeting diverse international markets, and enhancing our direct booking channels. We also prioritize partnerships with travel platforms and airlines, ensuring both Kathmandu Marriott Hotel and Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu remain preferred choices for travelers.

We aim to collaborate closely with the Nepal Tourism Board to ensure that Nepal remains top of mind for all our primary target markets. This collaboration will help us position Nepal as a premier travel destination, attracting more visitors and boosting the overall growth of tourism landscape and the hospitality sector.

What key steps do you believe are necessary for Nepal's hospitality sector to thrive on a global scale?

To ensure Nepal's hospitality sector thrives on a global scale, leveraging technology and innovation is crucial. Emphasizing sustainable tourism practices, such as reducing carbon footprints and supporting local communities, will appeal to environmentally conscious travelers and ensure long-term viability.

Strategic partnerships and collaborations with international travel agencies, airlines, and global hospitality brands can boost visibility and credibility. Expanding the range of tourism experiences, from adventure and wellness tourism to cultural and culinary tours, can attract diverse traveler segments. By focusing on these areas, Nepal's hospitality sector can achieve sustainable growth and establish itself as a premier global destination.

What are you passionate about, and how do you stay motivated and energized in your role?

I am passionate about creating meaningful guest experiences and driving innovation in hospitality. I stay motivated by working with a talented team, celebrating successes, and embracing challenges as opportunities for growth. Seeing our efforts translate into memorable stays for our guests and contributing to Nepal’s hospitality landscape keeps me energized and inspired.

What unique experience would you recommend to a tourist visiting Nepal for the first time?

For first-time visitors, I recommend exploring the serene beauty of Kathmandu and the cultural richness of the Valley, while indulging in Nepali cuisine. I suggest an immersive journey combining Nepal’s culture, adventure, and wellness. Begin with a heritage walk through Kathmandu Durbar Square, followed by a sunrise trip to Nagarkot for panoramic Himalayan views. Back at the hotel, savor an authentic Nepali Thali at Thamel Kitchen. For adventure, hike Shivapuri National Park, and for spiritual serenity, visit the iconic Boudhanath Stupa. End your day with a Hot Stone Massage or a Signature Treatment at M-Wellness. For extended stays, consider a serene lakeside retreat in Pokhara or a helicopter tour to Everest Base Camp for an unforgettable Nepal experience.
