Hotel Barahi Kathmandu has been awarded the TOFTiger certification (2024–2027), recognizing its exceptional commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

Kathmandu – Hotel Barahi Kathmandu has been awarded the prestigious Travel Operators for Tigers (TOFTiger) certification for excellence in sustainable practices. Valid from September 2024 to August 2027, the certification recognizes the hotel’s outstanding commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

The hotel achieved remarkable scores across four key criteria in TOFTiger's eco-footprint rating, which evaluates environmental impact, operational practices, and community contributions.

TOFTiger's evaluation highlighted the hotel’s efforts in nature education, local program participation, and adherence to environmental laws. It also commended the use of eco-friendly construction materials, promotion of green spaces, accessibility for differently-abled individuals, and support for local agricultural products.

The hotel was recognized for its water conservation measures, energy-saving initiatives, and waste management practices, including the use of biodegradable materials and plastic-free bottles. Electric vehicle usage and waste segregation systems further showcased its eco-conscious approach.

Hotel Barahi Kathmandu actively supports the local community through fair wages, skill promotion, and the use of local products. The hotel’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is evident in its initiatives, such as donation drives for orphanages, cleanup campaigns at UNESCO heritage sites, and collaborations with the Red Cross and Rotary Club for health campaigns.

Mahendra Raj Pudel, President of SKAL International Nepal, remarked, “The criteria of TOFT itself is tough, and to receive certification is a great achievement on its own.”

Similarly, Yubika Bhandari from NATA noted, “If a big hotel like Barahi Kathmandu can follow sustainable practices, we should learn from them and adopt these practices in our day-to-day lives and households.”

Hotel Barahi Kathmandu recently earned additional accolades, including the Gold Award for South Asia's Best New Hotel at the South Asia Travel Awards (SATA) 2024 and an ‘A’ grade in food safety from Nepal's Food Technology and Quality Control Department.

As part of the renowned Barahi Group, which operates properties like Barahi Jungle Lodge in Chitwan and Sarangkot Mountain Lodge in Pokhara, the hotel continues to set benchmarks in sustainable hospitality. The group’s mission emphasizes environmental stewardship, cultural preservation, and community engagement, establishing it as a leader in Nepal’s hospitality industry.
