KATHMANDU, NEPAL : APRIL 29, 2025 - Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) hosted a dynamic event at Aloft Kathmandu Thamel, with the theme connecting content creators and package curators.The gathering aimed to foster collaboration, share untold destination stories, and develop innovative, marketable travel packages that spotlight Nepal’s unique experiences. The event created a vibrant atmosphere filled with curiosity and a strong eagerness to learn, as representatives from all seven provinces of Nepal exchanged ideas and insights on expanding Nepal’s tourism narrative.
Key Highlights from the Event
Opening Insights: The first speaker, Kanak Mani Dixit who is a renowned publisher, editor, and writer at Himal Media emphasized the importance of storytelling in tourism. He stated, "You need a narrative to live tourism," underscoring that compelling stories (Gaatha) enrich the tourism experience and elevate Nepal’s appeal to discerning travellers.
Provincial Representation: Content creators from Koshi, Lumbini, Gandaki, Karnali, Sudurpaschim, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces participated, bringing forward stories and discoveries from both renowned and lesser-known destinations. Presentations highlighted unexplored places such as the Ice Lake of Manang and unique experiences like "goth stay" (staying at traditional sheds), advocating for off-the-beaten-path adventures and untamed journeys.
Diverse Tourism Themes: The event spotlighted cultural tourism, agrotourism, ecotourism, and the value of digital detox destinations. There was a strong push to move beyond traditional UNESCO World Heritage sites, especially in Bagmati province, and to develop year-round tourism packages that can sustain the industry throughout all seasons.
NTB’s Commitment: Ram Prasad Sapkota (Kamal), Vice Chairman of the NTB Executive Committee, delivered a vote of thanks and shared his evolving understanding of tourism, recognizing the importance of both international and domestic travellers. He highlighted NTB’s commitment to supporting content creators by acquiring videos and itineraries for promotion in international markets.
The event at Aloft Kathmandu Thamel reflects a broader movement within Nepal’s tourism sector to shift from product-based to experience-based tourism, focusing on authentic narratives and sustainable practices. NTB has been urged to leverage digital media, empower local communities, and reform outdated strategies to unlock Nepal’s immense tourism potential.
