June 14, the Embassy of Bangladesh to Nepal organised a cultural show to celebrate the birthdays of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam
Marking the 158th and 120th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam respectively, the Embassy of Bangladesh to Nepal organised a cultural show on June 14 at Army Officer's Club, Sundhara. The event was graced by Governor of Province 3, Anuradha Koirala as the Chief Guest, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal, Her Excellency Mashfee Binte Shams, dignitaries from Nepal and other countries and media.
The programme kicked off with the Chief Guest of the event, Anuradha Koirala giving the opening speech. The speech entailed the contribution of the two poets to Bangladesh and their significance to the Bangali people. Then Blue Periscope, a renowned student band from Bangladesh performed songs and poems of both the poets showcasing their amazing talent and took the audience on a roller coaster of emotions through their exquisite melodies.
According to Her Excellency Mashfee Binte Shams, "We celebrate birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam every year because they are both cultural icons for Bangladesh. Bishwa Kabi (World Poet) Rabindranath Tagore composed our nation anthem, he was also a great literary figure in the world. Rebel Poet Kazi Nazrul wrote againsts colonialism, casteism and supertition and was made our national poet in 1972 because he was so inpirational for us."
The event ended with the thank you speech from the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal, Her Excellency Mashfee Binte Shams. After the show all the guests were invited for Hi-tea outside the hall.
