Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has received a total of 713 proposals for promoting tourism on a cost-sharing partnership with local units, state level and federal level organizations.

The proposals were called by the Ministry on August 17. Over Rs 33 billion has been projected as the estimated cost for the 713 projects for which the state and local units have pledged to chip in around Rs 12 billion.

10 proposals were submitted from State Levels, 9 from Metropolitan Cities, 10 from Sub-Metropolitan Cities, 307 from municipalities and 377 from rural municipalities, according to the Ministry.

The rural municipalities will bear 30 per cent of the total cost while 35 per cent will be borne by municipalities. Similarly, sub-metropolitan cites will take care of 40 per cent of the cost while Metropolitan Cities and States will bear 50 per cent each.

The Ministry had called for proposals pledging up to Rs 50 million to each programme in rural municipalities, Rs 70 million to municipalities, Rs 100 million to Sub-Metropolitans Cities, Rs 150 million for Metropolitan Cities and Rs 300 million for the State level.

The Ministry this year has forwarded the tourism promotion programs to be run in the modality of cost partnership to help boost local tourism, informed Kamal Prasad Bhattarai, Joint-Secretary of the Ministry. The Ministry had identified 100 new destinations across the country to encourage domestic tourism.
