The District Administration Office, Surkhet has started looking for options other than government and community schools being used as quarantine centres.

A decision has been taken to find other buildings to house the quarantine as closure of schools has affected children's education, and also because the number of people quarantined is now on the decline, said Padam Lal Lamichhane, the information officer at the Office.

Presently, 175 educational institutions from basic school to university are being used as quarantine centres. There are currently 12,870 people quarantined in those centres. The District Disaster Management Committee led by Chief District Officer Hira Lal Regmi also decided to carry out a study on the long-term impact of conversion of the schools into quarantine centres.
