Located in the remote hills of Sudurpaschim Province, Doti is a beautiful place that offers an unforgettable travel experience. My journey to this peaceful and culturally rich region began with a long, winding tracel from Kathmandu, filled with anticipation and excitement. The natural beauty, warm hospitality, and rich cultural heritage of Doti made this trip truly special.
The journey itself was an adventure, starting with a flight to Dhangadhi from Kathmandu, the nearest airport, followed by a drive through winding mountain roads. As we moved forward, the air became crisper, and the views more breathtaking. The lush green hills, terraced fields, and distant mountain ranges created a picture perfect landscape that seemed straight out of a postcard.
Arriving in Doti, I was immediately struck by the calmness of the region. The district is less commercialized compared to other tourist destinations in Nepal, giving it a unique charm. The local people greeted us with warm smiles and genuine hospitality.
One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the ancient temple of Shaileshwari, which holds great religious significance. The temple, located on a hilltop, offers stunning views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. The peaceful ambiance and the melodic chanting of prayers created a spiritual atmosphere that was both soothing and uplifting.
Another memorable experience was exploring the small village of Dipayal, the district headquarters. Walking through the narrow lanes, I observed traditional mud houses with thatched roofs, vibrant local markets, and people going about their daily lives. The simplicity and authenticity of the village life in Dipayal were heartwarming.

I had the opportunity to savor traditional dishes like Dhido, a thick porridge made from buckwheat or millet, and Gundruk, fermented leafy greens. One cannot visit Doti without experiencing the vibrant local festivals. Luckily, my trip coincided with the celebration of Gaura Parva, a major festival in Sudurpashchim Province. Watching the locals dressed in their traditional attire, performing age-old dances, and singing folk songs was a beautiful experience that offered a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region.
