The festival seeks to promote the tradition of witnessing theatre

The Nepal International Theatre Festival (NITFest) 2022 is all set to take in Mandala Theatre, Thapagaun, from November 25 to December 3. The festival's theme is “Theatre for Social Transformation: Celebrating Diversity”.

The Mandala Theatre has released the drama schedule for the nine-day festival, which includes 16 plays from different nations like India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Russia, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Uruguay, and Argentina.

According to Mandala Theatre, six Nepali dramas will also be screened, one on the first day and another on the last. The Mandala Theatre’s main theatre hall, studio, and open area would host simultaneous performances.

The festival seeks to promote the tradition of witnessing theatre, one of the performing arts, according to Dayahang Rai, chairperson of Mandala Theatre.

“We take part in several theatrical festivals overseas but none in our nation. Because we wish to celebrate theatre as a festival, Mandala Theatrical started the international theatre festival,” shared Rai.

As stated by the festival’s organisers, the multinational dramas will depict a variety of artistic mediums, cultural practices, socio-political contents, and the emotions and sentiments of many participating nations. The festival offers musical events in addition to theatrical acts.

The festival’s primary draw is Shabana Azmi, a veteran Bollywood actress. She has committed to attending NITFeast 2022’s official inauguration at Mandala Theatre on November 25, 2022. Additionally, she will conduct a masterclass at Mandala Theatre Hall on November 26 at 7:30 pm.
