16, Oct 2022 | nepaltraveller.com

As autumn makes its way, you might want to get geared up for trekking in a climate perfect for enhancing your encounter with nature

October is the best month to go outside your home and enjoy the scenic wonders Nepal has to offer, with a climate that’s neither too hot nor too cold and a spry sky. With the average day temperature between 14 to 25 degrees in the hilly region, trekking is a popular activity among locals and tourists this season. This is why we have devised a list of places to trek to aid your touristic ordeals.

Everest Base Camp Trek

Located at an altitude of 5364m, Everest Base Camp offers one of the most challenging and equally pristine treks. The trek usually takes 12 days, including a two-way flight from and to Kathmandu. Every other turn in the trail brings about a new immaculate sight ranging from forests to Sherpa villages, glacial moraines and foothills. For this trek, the temperature is usually in the negatives, so you might want to pack your bags accordingly.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek

One of the most popular treks in the world, Annapurna Base Camp Trek, takes you to an altitude of 4130 meters above sea level. This trek is 11 days long on average, subject to change on the package you take, but a walk through terraced fields, culturally quaint Gurung villages, and rich mountain vistas in which the trek also makes its way past Mt Machhapuchhre, another one of Nepal’s beautiful mountains. The temperature during this trek is really unpredictable, ranging from 12°C to sometimes negative digits.

Annapurna Circuit Trek:

If you find Annapurna Base Camp Trek monotonous and constraining, Annapurna Circuit Trek is for you. The trek makes its way through deep gorges, snow-capped high mountain passes, pristine viewpoints (Poon Hill), hot springs, temples, villages, and stunning views of Mt. Annapurna, Thorung Peak, Nilgiri, Chulu West, and Chulu East, Tukuche Peak, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and Annapurna IV. Owing to the sheer quantity of things it has to offer, the trek is 14 days long. The highest altitude the trek takes you to is 5416m above sea level. The average autumn temperature for this trek ranges around 8°C-12°C.

Langtang Valley Trek

Autumn brings the best out of the Langtang trek, where you walk past a trail blooming with rhododendron and other wildflowers with an unblemished sight of snow-capped peaks. The highest point on the course is 3800m which is why the temperature is more moderate than the other treks, with the highest of 10°C and 2°C at the lowest during autumn. It is an excellent experience if you are trekking for the first time. The trek usually lasts for a maximum of 8 days from Kathmandu to the valley and back.

Upper Mustang Trek

October and November are the best months for an Upper Mustang Trek because the breezy temperature ranges from 12°C to 20°C. The trek is a walk through high rocky colourful cliffs and caves with a view of snowy mountains. It is also famously known for its rock paintings and the monastery. The trek takes you to a maximum height of 4230 meters above sea level. The Buddhist cultural significance of this place and its remoteness creates a wonderful blend of experiences in your tour. The trek lasts for 15 days owing to how difficult it is to get to the upper mustang and more difficult to trek once you get there.
