History of Shivapuri National Park


The Shivapuri Hills have long served as a vital water catchment area, supplying the Kathmandu Valley with approximately 7,000 cubic meters of water each day. Originally designated as a protected watershed and wildlife reserve, the area was officially declared a national park in 1976 and given the name Shivapuri. In 2002, the park was expanded to encompass a 159 km2 area, including the western portion of the original reserve, while still retaining its significance as a source of water for the surrounding region.

  • Entrance fees for Foreigners: NPR.1000
