Chhangchhangdi, also known as Chaya-kshetra, is mentioned in the Swasthani Vrata-Katha, considered to be a part of the Skanda Purana, as the place where the last organ of the dead Satidevi fell when she was being carried by Lord Shiva. The Bhirkot Durbar, an ancient palace located in the Bhirkot municipality, is also a popular destination for history buffs, offering a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the region.

The district of Syangja has five municipalities: Waling, Putalibazar, Chapakot, Bhirkot, and Galyang, and six rural municipalities: Aandhikhola, Arjun Chaupari, Biruwa, Phedikhola, Harinas, and Kaligandaki. Waling, the largest and most developed city in the district, is a longitudinal valley along the banks of the Aandhikhola River. According to one folk legend, the Aandhikhola River is believed to have originated from the tears of Shravan in the Ramayana.

The district is known for its lively music and dance culture, and visitors can enjoy traditional Nepali folk music and dance performances during various festivals and celebrations. The Maghe Sankranti festival, which falls in mid-January, is one of the most significant cultural events in Syangja, during which locals celebrate with special food, music, and dance.
