Pokhara-based tourism entrepreneurs have been active in the business promotion to restore the tourism sector, which was in trouble due to the Corona epidemic. In order to increase tourist attraction, Pokhara is also a suitable destination from the point of view of health security.

A team led by the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAN) Western Regional Association is on a journey to the Annapurna base camp in the north with the aim of developing a new destination for trekking tourism. President of the Tan Western Regional Association Sushil Raj Poudel informed that the promotional visit was made with the aim of connecting the Annapurna base camp footpath with hiking tourism in the north.

The Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agencies (NATTA) Gandaki Pradesh has started observation tours of Tanahu, Lamjung, Gorkha and other places from today with the aim of bringing back the long-delayed tourism. A four-day visit has been planned with the aim of expediting the long-stalled tourism, said Natta Gandaki State Chairman Sanjay Kant Sigdel.

"Promotion of existing destinations is more important now than finding new destinations to revive long-dormant tourism," he said. Prosperous tourism transport businessmen, who are providing well-equipped transport services to the tourists coming to Pokhara, are also preparing to speed up the slowdown in tourism.

According to Bobar Jung Gurung, president of the Nepal Tourist Transport Entrepreneurs' Association, Gandaki, entrepreneurs have invested well in standard tourist buses as per the government's request to increase investment in public and tourism-related hotel business and other related sectors. According to him, before the start of the tourist year, infrastructure was added in hotels and restaurants and the number of well-equipped tourist buses was also increased in line with the pace of construction of new hotels. Giving information that there are land cruisers, coasters etc. from Pokhara with green number plates, Gurung said that around Rs. 500 million worth of tourist vehicles has been purchased here recently targeting the year of visit.

According to the concerned businessmen, billions of rupees have been invested in the tourism sector due to the sudden onset of the epidemic. The association currently has 400 tourist vehicles of various capacities. He informed that the association has to bear a minimum loss of Rs. 200,000 daily since the start of the ban on tourist vehicles.

Even though the government has opened the tourism sector, the tourists have returned disappointed as the surrounding tourist destinations have not been opened yet, said Som Thapa, former chairman of Pokhara Tourism Council and chairman of Yatri Bus Palika. He said that all the destinations should be opened by adopting health safety measures in the situation where tourism has started to flourish. A three-day promotional visit has been organized by the Nepal Tourist Transport Entrepreneurs Association, Gandaki Pradesh from November 8 with the aim of restoring the stagnant tourism, said Bobar Jung Gurung, president of the association.

Stating that the association is going to conduct promotional programs in various tourist destinations through Syangja, Palpa, Nawalpur and Chitwan, Gurung said that the message would be spread that Pokhara is safe for tourists in terms of health and safety. The association said that it is preparing to operate the transport to make the tourists feel safe and in the meantime, the drivers and other staff have been trained on safety standards and other issues.
