Bird researcher Devendra Kharel has found a bird of the 'green pigeon' species in Mechinagar. The bird with the scientific name 'Dukula Aniya' and the English name 'Green Imperial Pigeon' was found in a Simal tree at Satighatta of Mechinagar Municipality-7. He said that the bird of that species was found for the first time in Nepal.
Dr. Hemsagar Baral, who has been writing a book on birds, has confirmed that the bird was found in Nepal for the first time. "While searching for birds at around 8.30 am on November 26, I saw four unique pigeon-like birds in the Simal tree," Kharel, a resident of Mechinagar-6, told RSS. Confirmed the discovery. ”
He has been working for the search and protection of birds for the past five years. He has been working in Jhapa, Ilam, Sunsari, Chitwan and other places to take pictures of birds and raise public awareness for their conservation.
There are 886 species of birds in Nepal. The green dove has not yet been included in the list of available birds. Now, the number of bird species has reached 887, said bird researcher Kharel. Pigeons of this species are 10 cm longer than domestic pigeons and have a bright green color on both wings, so they are twice the size of pigeons and much larger than domestic pigeons.
Finding green pigeons is considered a great achievement in terms of bird conservation and bird tourism. The swamps along the Mechi and Nanda rivers in Mechinagar and the Chure forest area bordering Ilam are said to be home to 300 species of birds. He said that the state needs to focus on attracting tourists by conserving these birds.
