Jagadulla Lake is a freshwater lake located at an elevation of 4700 meters above sea level in Jagadulla Rural Municipality in the Dolpa District of Nepal. This pristine lake is a hidden gem in Dolpa, which carries religious beliefs for both Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims. In the past, it was also called Dudh Kunda, later on, it was named Rakxes Daha, and lately, it is famous as Prem Taal due to its unique heart shape.
Dolpa is one of the mystical and magical lands that hide piles of sacred places, and Jagadulla Taal is one of them. In addition to being the source of water and the beauty of nature to be admired, lakes and rivers are also places of worship and the birthplace of several civilisations. Jagadulla is also revered for its connection to humanity. It is believed that Jagadulla has a divine power which can wash away sins and cure all illnesses. As a result, the lake holds special meaning for the Dolpa people. This place is the biggest pilgrimage site with many blessings from nine hundred thousand and nine thousand of gods and nymphs. The belief holds that those who drink pond water gain vigour and are blessed with children even when they are having trouble getting pregnant. People also believed that this place was a way to heaven.
Rugged landscapes, snow-capped peaks, old towns, abundant animals, gorgeous Buddhist monasteries and plain grassland lead to unforgettable destinations. The grassland is also famous for picking Yarchagumba during its seasons. A well-known and reputable medicinal herb, Yarchagumba is a legendary herbal substance that is beneficial for various medical issues. It’s a seven-day trip from Kathmandu, but it could be longer or shorter depending on how many hours you walk a day. Taking a local guide is strongly advised.
