Protesters including human rights activist Pahadi held

Police held individuals including noted human rights activist Krishna Pahadi on the way to the Embassy of India to protest India's recent move of constructing a road by encroaching upon Nepal's Lipulekh area. The protestors were detained for defying lockdown order and now are being kept at Kathmandu Metropolitan City police office, police informed.

According to in-charge of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Police Office and Deputy Inspector General of Police Biswo Raj Pokharel, as many as 51 people including Pahadi were arrested from Kathmandu for violating lockdown order. They would be released after detaining them during the day today, he said.

Earlier too, police arrested and freed 33 protesters including student leaders associated to the ruling Nepal Communist Party who took to street to stage demonstration against the intrusion of Nepal's border territory some days ago.

The border encroachment by Indian side is being protested from different quarters of life in Nepal. The Nepal government has already sent a diplomatic note to the Indian government regarding the construction of road calling on the latter to peacefully settle the border dispute through dialogue. The government has made it clear that the area where the road is being constructed by Indian side falls within Nepal's boundary.
