Kushma’s Modi Gorge: Nepal’s Deep Valley of Bridges, Rivers and Adventure

5, Oct 2026 | nepaltraveller.com

Kushma’s Modi Gorge in Parbat, where deep river valleys, towering suspension bridges and thrilling adventures come together. From walking high above the Modi River to experiencing bungee jumping, canyon swings and nearby Himalayan trails, Kushma offers a different side of Nepal for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

High above a rushing Himalayan river, long suspension bridges stretch from one hillside to another while a deep green gorge disappears below. This dramatic landscape is part of Kushma, a growing adventure destination in Nepal’s Parbat District where rivers, cliffs and remarkable bridges come together.

Kushma lies between the Modi and Kali Gandaki river systems in Gandaki Province. The Modi River, or Modi Khola, begins in the Annapurna region and travels for roughly 50 kilometres before joining the Kali Gandaki at Modi Beni. As the river descends from the mountains, it cuts through steep terrain and creates the impressive Modi valley and gorge.

A Town Connected by Bridges

One of the most striking features of Kushma is its network of high suspension bridges. These bridges are more than transportation routes connecting communities separated by deep valleys; they have become attractions themselves.

Walking across one offers a completely different view of the landscape. Far below, the river winds between steep slopes, while hills and settlements rise on either side. The Kushma–Gyadi suspension bridge is particularly well known, stretching hundreds of metres across the gorge.

For visitors who are uncomfortable with heights, even crossing one of these gently swaying bridges can feel like an adventure.

From Natural Gorge to Adventure Destination

Kushma has also transformed its dramatic geography into an adventure tourism hub. The area is particularly famous for its 228-metre bungee jump, built around a suspension bridge spanning the deep river gorge. Visitors can also experience a canyon swing and zipline, turning the cliffs and valleys surrounding Kushma into a natural playground for thrill-seekers.

But Kushma is not only about adrenaline. The surrounding Modi Valley leads toward the Annapurna region, while nearby attractions include Gupteshwor Cave, temples and hiking routes. The Modi River itself begins around the Annapurna Sanctuary, and its valley forms part of the landscape experienced by trekkers heading toward Annapurna Base Camp.

A Different Side of Nepal

Kushma offers something different from Nepal’s better-known mountain destinations. Here, visitors do not need to complete a multi-day trek to experience dramatic Himalayan geography.

The combination of deep river valleys, towering suspension bridges, flowing Himalayan rivers and modern adventure activities makes the area memorable even on a short visit. With Pokhara providing convenient access to the region, Kushma can also fit naturally into a wider journey through western Nepal.

For travelers willing to look beyond Nepal’s familiar tourist trails, Kushma’s Modi Gorge reveals a landscape where everyday bridges have become attractions and the geography itself creates the adventure.
