In a momentous celebration marking the 25th anniversary of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), an array of dignitaries, including previous NTB chairpersons, ministers, representatives from tourism organizations, consuls, national and international guests, and diplomats, gathered for a reflective event on the progress and challenges within Nepal's dynamic tourism sector.
The commemorative event, held at a prestigious venue, showcased the rich cultural heritage of Nepal with vibrant cultural performances, felicitations, and the unveiling of the eagerly awaited In-Focus annual magazine. The highlight of the evening was a captivating promotional video that encapsulated the diverse beauty and attractions of the country.
Chief Guest Sudan Kirati, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, set an optimistic tone for the evening by recognizing the collaborative efforts that have propelled Nepal's tourism sector forward. Kirati emphasized the importance of preserving the authentic Nepali essence in tourism, urging for immersive experiences that showcase local traditions, culture, and unique practices. While commending infrastructure advancements, Kirati also voiced concerns about emigration issues and stressed the need for organized development to enhance overall living standards.
Dhananjay Regmi, the CEO of NTB, expressed gratitude and highlighted the remarkable achievements of the tourism sector, including surpassing the target of 1 million tourists. He joyfully noted an 85% rebound from the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, a feat globally applauded. Regmi underscored the significance of diversifying tourism aspects, emphasizing LGBTQ inclusion and the incorporation of events like the Dragon Boat Festival and Yogi Summit. He passionately advocated for Nepal to be seen as a destination for all seasons and all ages, not limiting itself solely as a mountaineering destination. Regmi also proposed the exciting initiative of "Nepal Visit Year 2025" and expressed optimism for positive policy changes.
